UW Eau Claire Normalizing Deviancy

   “Deviate,” according to my 1974 Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary, is defined: “Characterized by or given to significant departure from the behavioral norms of a particular society.”
     According to a recent Eau Claire Leader Telegram article, “Students, administrators, speak out against bigotry” the UW-Eau Claire is promoting a significant departure from the behavioral norms of Western Christian civilization. 
   To implement this departure the UW administrators and their Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning and Allied group, it seems, have declared the university as no longer a free speech zone. Among the incidents cited as necessitating this cancelation was one in which a UW male student was criticized for “being too gay” after he was spotted wearing high-heeled shoes. This, according to UW administrators, is bigotry and can get one reported by their Stalinist era type informers, the Bias Incident Reporting Team.
     That certain speech, even when unpopular, is protected by the First Amendment seems of no concern to UW-Eau Claire Chancellor James Schmidt and his fellow administrators.
