Fathers: What Do They Face Today?

         June is the month when we celebrate the joy of fatherhood. Fathers play a significant role in a child’s life, as a role model for what their daughters will look for in a husband. Sons will look to their fathers to see how the women in their lives are treated. Just like mothers, fathers have a huge impact upon their children’s lives, and future generations to come, as family traditions (both good and bad) are handed down.  

   What are fathers facing today when their wives, fiancées or girlfriends become pregnant? Forty years ago, if an unexpected pregnancy occurred, a man stood by his significant other and faced the pregnancy with her. Some couples married. Some made arrangements to place the child with relatives or for adoption. However, today, with abortion laws as they currently stand, a father has NO rights to the future of his child.  Roe v. Wade has seen to that. Fathers help conceive a child, but once conceived, the father is totally excluded from that child’s future unless the couple, married or otherwise, place the interests  of the child before all else. 

   As we know, today, a single mother can choose to end her child’s life without the father’s knowledge, involvement or consent. That precious life is lost, and the baby’s father (and his family) will never get to know this lost child. Attempts have been made nationally ...
