When Does Vigilance Go 'Over the Top?'

   A Wausaukee, Wisconsin bank is very grateful for observant people at the gas station next door.  In August, employees noticed a man putting on a mask walking toward the bank. They contacted the bank in time for them to lock the doors. A 911 call led to alerts at other businesses as well which proved to be a good thing since the robber tried another nearby bank soon after.  Law enforcement people from all over the county converged to capture the would-be robber. 
   This kind of awareness of what is happening around us has historically been true in America, especially rural areas. We now live in a time when at least 25% of the work force is not employed and government benefits for food have been sharply reduced.  Seriously hungry people do not always make good choices…like the would-be robber who said that he just needed some money and thought this was a good way to get some.
   It is good to be aware and protective of your neighbors and, in fact, is a Biblical mandate to do so. But there are some cautions that need to be in place. How much vigilance is enough and how much is TOO much?  Perhaps it has something to do with WHO is doing it. Security cameras are often providing information, but who is behind the cameras?
