'Right'-eous!

Complimentary Story
The battle is on…and far from over. At its center is spiritual warfare.

The banner reads “MARRIAGE.” It is what is being fought for, or, perhaps, what is being fought against.  At present, the definition for this institution is a part of the battle.

The Word of God…and the evidence from centuries of human history give ample reason for this battle to be fought. In somewhat simplistic terms the fight is over two positions, summarized in two words -- “Rights”…and “Righteous.”

Satan and his warriors cry out -- “Everyone has “Rights!” Personal choice trumps any limitations that could be imposed. The ultimate outcome of this position is full corruption of all that is good and Godly.

God, through His Word, offers the alternative. We are called to be “Righteous” (Right before God). He sets the standards by which we are to live. He established Commandments to guide our lives. Our freedom is interwoven within this “righteousness.”

The apostle Paul offers this inspired insight that can be connected to this battle, as the human body is part of marriage:

“Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.” (Romans 6:13).

Righteous living frees us from the bonds of sin, death, and the devil. Righteousness leads to joy and peace tied to “holy” (“set apart”) living.

What is clear from God’s Word is that He created mankind to be “male and female’…made in “His image” (Genesis 1:27). God established the institution of heterosexual marriage (Genesis 2:21-24). As its Author, God has every right to establish its structure and integrity.

When it comes to human “rights,” consideration is given to whether it is God-pleasing, based on His right to made that decision. There is freedom within well-established, divine boundaries designed for human good.

When it comes to marriage, a central question is who has rights to it?  Is this merely a human endeavor governed by human rules and choices…or, is it God’s institution, wherein He holds ultimate rights. The answer holds huge implications that need serious consideration.

In the meantime we need to keep in  mind -- God only blesses what is right in His eyes! This is true of individuals, couples, and nations.
