The Church in Crisis (Part 5) ‘The Kingdom on Earth?’

   Who is the greatest?  Continuing in Matthew 20:25-28, “Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.  But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister.  And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

   In Luke 9:23-27, Jesus describes what it takes to be a servant.  “If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself (become a total servant), and take up his cross daily (crucifying the flesh that it has no power over their thinking), and follow Me.  For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life (his will) for My sake, the same shall save it (by the first and the two greatest of the commandments).

   “For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or he be cast away (for eternity)?  For whosoever shall be ashamed of Me and My works, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He shall come in His own glory.  But I tell you a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste death, till they see the kingdom of God.” 

   This last statement in verse 27 has been debated for centuries as to what Jesu ...
