Do Not Be Deceived! It's Not About Football or National Anthem!

   Last year, a football player, native to Wisconsin, Colin Kaepernick decided to use his position to showcase his concern about the oppression of people of color by not standing to honor the American flag during the national anthem. He changed his protest to kneeling, after a discussion with a veteran, saying he wanted to show respect for current and former military forces, while also registering his complaint that things are not as they should be in America. (That’s a “no brainer,” as they say, isn’t it? Yet there is NOT across the board agreement as to just what is wrong or right with America. )

   Since then, others have picked up the idea and extended it to more militant stances such as standing with a fist raised. Now, not only players and coaches are protesting by standing with linked arms, they are asking fans to do the same.  It has become associated with the concern about the unproportionally high violence said to be done by police toward blacks. Though the initial protest happened prior to the election, President Trump has entered into the fray. He declared the actions to be disrespectful to America, and a reason to get the protestors off the field or fire them, in a series of controversial tweets that some people cheer for and others despise.
