The Purpose of the Spirit, and the Abuse of the Gifts

   The Apostle Paul discusses the subject of the Holy Spirit in I Corinthians chapter 14 with a warning of abuses of the gifts, even at that time.  He starts with the statement “Follow after charity (agapa love, the more excellent way, Chapters 12 and 13.), and desire spiritual gifts.” Desire earnestly the best gifts for one reason only, “rather that ye may prophesy” proclaiming the truth, the truth that sets one free, to those whom God has put in your life! “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the Spirit he speaketh mysteries.”  Is this good?  Speaking only to God in an unknown tongue, not even knowing what was said? What is the purpose?  How does this support our service and ministry as ambassadors for the ministry of Christ? 

   If we have concerns yet not knowing how to express them, we are still conveying to God a specific message, for He knows and sees the very intent of our heart.
