Strengthening the Bond Between Fathers and Sons

RHINELANDER, Wis.
   It seems that wherever you look, there are messages out there that illustrate the collapse of the nucleus family.   The first result in a quick internet search on “songs that talk about dysfunctional families” was titled “Six Songs to Help You Deal with Your Dysfunctional Family”.  If that wasn’t bad enough, the third result on that search was “Nine Songs to Hate Your Parents To” followed closely by “I hate my sister: 18 songs about complicated sibling relationships."

   That was just a two-second search for music!  I can’t imagine what the response would be if I searched for television shows and movies that show dysfunctional families.  The situation has grown so bad, that it’s the source of “comedy” in our modern world.  It is a real issue that is only going to become more prevalent as time goes by.  

   There are many reasons why families struggle to maintain healthy relationships, like financial difficulties, work schedules, or other distractions that pull time and attention in a different direction.  More often, however, research tells us that the number one reason people — especially men — struggle to maintain healthy relationships is apathy; they simply don’t know HOW to connect with their family, and so they don’t even try.
