Sharing God’s Love through Acts of Kindness

   If we’re to be purposeful Christians, then we cannot ignore the Great Commission and the lost and needy all around us.  Jesus used the most ordinary things to lead people to Himself. At a well, He spoke of Himself as the Water of Life that quenches a deep thirst. To the hungry, He presented Himself as the Bread of Life. To the crippled and sick, He was the One who could make people whole. 

   Serving others around us opens the door to share our faith, but we must remember to do just that – share our faith. Think about it. We take a piece of cake to a neighbor who is homebound. Or, as a church, we serve a meal at the homeless shelter. In themselves, these are positive activities. But do those actions, in themselves, point to Christ?  

   Jesus told us in Matthew 28 to “teach” the Gospel to others (v.v. 19-20). So, how do we “teach” without words? You can’t. While an act of kindness is wonderful, it points no one to Christ. The Gospel must be spoken. Without words, we alone receive credit for our actions. Our actions must give God the credit He deserves.

   So, how do we serve others and be a witness for Christ? 

   Get your church involved. Set up a prayer booth at a local farmers’ market or festival. Take the time to ask people about their spiritual life. Many are open to hear the Gospel. Hold a fr ...
