‘Jubilee Bible 2000’ Wrong on Divorce

Editor, Wisconsin Christian News:

I was studying in Matthew 19.  A cross reference for Matthew 19:5, 6 was Malachi 2:15,16.  I had always known this passage to state that God hates divorce.  I went to my 1991 edition of the NIV to check for sure and there it was:  Malachi 2:16, “I hate divorce, says the Lord God of Israel.”

I was, and am, appalled to find that the Jubilee Bible no longer says this.  For centuries the Bible has said that God hates divorce.  And no wonder, as it is contrary to His plan and we are reaping the devastation that decades of violating this plan has caused.  Now that divorce is common practice in our society, (and so sadly among Christians too), and it is no longer socially acceptable or politically correct to speak against divorce, are we changed even God’s Word to reflect our wicked modern culture?

Are we interpreting the Bible by society’s standards rather than living by the Bible’s standards?  God DOES hate divorce.  Please let His Word say so!
