What Does it Mean to 'Preach the Gospel?'

   There are many limitations in this present time as to what it is to present the Gospel of God’s saving grace through our Lord Jesus Christ. I ask you to allow a few minutes of time to consider what we find in God’s Word concerning this Gospel (good news) so necessary to be proclaimed to lost sinners.

   In Matthew 4:17 we see Jesus commanding the lost to “repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”  In Mark 1:14 we read that Jesus came preaching “the gospel of the kingdom.”  We note also that the kingdom Christ spoke of has come, is come, and to enter therein one must be reborn spiritually! See Luke 11:20 and John chapter 3.

   There are  four basic tenets which are needful in a clear Gospel message as we find biblically as well  as historically in the Old Protestant Confessions of Faith. They are as follows:

1). Present a realistic account of who God is.

2). Give a true picture of the plight of man.

3). Show who Christ is as the Bible reveals Him.

4). Convey the truth about salvation.

   It goes without saying that no man in their right mind wants to go to a place of eternal torment called hell; but to be delivered from one’s bondage to sin and its pleasures for a season is entirely a different matter!
