God is Not 'Tolerant'

   We live in a world that calls for tolerance.  Our view of tolerance is different from Jesus Christ’s. Hebrews 13: 8-9,  “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.  Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings.”  

   God and Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit have always been the same. They are immutable in Their character.  How could God ever change? It is a ridiculous view of God. To say that God is “tolerant” is to say that He can accept the sinfulness of man’s corrupt ideas. The heart is deceitful beyond all things, desperately wicked, beyond repair. That is why everyone must be born again. These are the words of our Savior!  “Tolerance”  means that God bends to our wills. Impossible!

The good news is that God is slow to anger and abounding in mercy and grace. 

   Psalm 103: “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.  He will not always accuse, nor will He harbor His anger forever;  He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.  For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us, and abounding in mercy and grace.”
