Most often this misconception is taken from the Ephesians 6:10-18 description of the armor of God and pictured as a King Arthur knight on a horse. There is not one aspect of the armor in this context that is a weapon or to be directed at people and used as some offensive weapon of physical or verbal warfare. That idea came from Hollywood movies, yet it is used by some professing Christians to literally beat people with Bible verses. As Larry the Cable Guy would say “all in good Christian love.”
This Ephesians context IS directed at the individual believer. It is an invitation from God to allow Him to help the believer stand firm in the face of the devil’s schemes.
