Many would jump at an opportunity if the White House contacted you saying you could have a 15 minute one-time appointment to speak with the President and tell him whatever you desired. Few would turn this away knowing what a wonderful and awesome privilege this would be.
Yet to the believer in Christ, we have the opportunity to speak with One far greater than the President of the United States, we can speak to the God of the universe through prayer. And it’s not limited to a one-time event, but we have 24/7 access with no appointment necessary.
What is genuine prayer? It is when the “created being” speaks directly to the Creator, the “one true God.”
There are many reasons Christians pray to God. We are commanded by the Lord Himself to pray with much determination, resolution, and fortitude. It may be we are fearful and asking for protection. It may be we are faced with health problems or financial difficulties and we are seeking guidance.
We speak to God when we “say grace” at mealtime thanking Him for the food in front of us and we commit our cares to Him as we await the results of a biopsy.
