Conquerors, Not Wanderers

   Many in the church of Jesus Christ compare the church to be similar to the nation of Israel that wandered in the wilderness for forty years. They look at the Promised Land as a place we are yet to cross over to. But I ask you, is the wanderings of the backslidden Israelites the best example we can come up with which to identify the church of Jesus Christ?

   I understand that leaving Egypt represents salvation. Since we were set free from bondage and a cruel task master, Satan, who we didn’t even know we served. But leaving Egypt, just to wander in rebellion and unbelief is not my idea of Christian living. Israel, during their wandering, did have times of victory over enemy nations, but far too often, the wilderness journey was a life of rebellion, complaining and unbelief.

    The book of Hebrews reminds us of what that generation of Israelites were the most remembered for.

   “Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, Today if ye will hear His voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:  When your fathers tempted Me, proved Me, and saw My works forty years. Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do always err in their heart; and they have not known My ways.
