The Action Plan

   It was one of Jesus’ ministry objectives. Beyond His top agenda items of redemption and compassion, came the goal of training those who would be His future leaders and spokespeople.  

   These men (and women) would take an active role in fulfilling Christ’s ongoing, earthly mission.  The foundation for this work had two overlapping commissions which Christ Himself outlined:  “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”  (Matthew 28:19-20a).

   “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8).

   Jesus saw this as sufficient guidance.  What is also significant is what He didn’t emphasize. We find no reference to the following — building churches… worshipping …setting up denominations.

   No, Jesus’ commissioning involved four priorities — disciple-making… baptizing… teaching…and, witnessing. The Holy Spirit was the Power Source for this vital work.  We find these lived out in the Action Book of the New Testament — the Book of Acts.       ...
