The Source of Depression: Rejecting God

   Depression is on the rise as more people reject a biblical worldview and cling to worldly possessions. Since I began interning with Created Equal and traveling all over the country to college campuses, I’ve spoken with a lot of people with many different backgrounds. But no matter where I go, I always talk to people who are utterly depressed. 

   Last week while at the University of Akron’s campus, I spoke with a student named Kyle. The conversation began with him explaining that every baby should be killed no matter if their parents want them or not. Now, I thought his reasoning for saying this was because he wanted to “stop overpopulation” from happening. But as he kept speaking, I quickly realized that wasn’t what drove him to have that position. Kyle thought it would be best if everyone would just die. In his mind the only way to see the end to pain was death. I talked with him for over an hour and there was little discussion about abortion. He was never going to change his mind on abortion when his worldview says people are better off dead. 

   I let him do most of the talking and I just asked him questions to guide the conversation. After speaking with him for 30 minutes I asked: “why do you hate God so much?” This self-proclaimed atheist was quick to give me an answer.
