R.I.P. Planet Earth

   Climate change is nothing new. Much of the earth was covered with ice, thick ice; and then it started melting thousands of years ago. Global warming.  After the Great Flood, of which most ancient cultures include in their histories, God indicated that never again would the world suffer from a worldwide flood.  “I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”  (Genesis 9:11 NIV).  Certainly there have been devastating floods in the 4500 years since the Great Flood. Some are happening at this very moment.  However, there is no other story of a worldwide flood occurring since the one-and-only.

   According to many sources, i.e. Epic of Gilgamesh, a worldwide flood certainly occurred. Many of these supposed scholars claim that Moses repeated the story of the flood from the Epic of Gilgamesh, which predated the Torah by approximately 700 years. However, though Moses wrote the Torah around 1500 BC, it covered a timeframe that began with creation of the universe and the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The Garden of Eden predates the Epic of Gilgamesh by hundreds of years.
