Facing the Judge

   Have you ever had to go before a Judge? Many people certainly have not, so it is difficult to imagine the emotions that surround such an encounter.  We may even be condescending or make flippant remarks as to the guilt of the law breaker deserving what they get. Most times I think we remain at a distance, unattached to the person we have heard about in the news or read about in the paper.  Tthe person has broken one of man’s laws and is facing charges, trial and sentencing through the court. If we allow a slight attachment, we may remark to ourselves that we are glad it’s not us. People that find themselves facing the judge, most times become outcasts as the community and most churches in that community pass judgement and flat out avoid and reject this person from personal fellowship. 

   I received a phone call from a man at 9:00 this morning asking me to pray for him.  At 11:00 a.m. he will be facing the judge as the court determines the official charges he will face. The fear and apprehension are very evident in his voice.  A traffic violation is the only thing on his record in all his 63 years. A team of lawyers and the judge will determine if any of a handful of nude pictures that were on the man’s phone are under the age of 18.
