Forgiveness, (Part 3): Praises and Prophecies

   Adam’s disobedience drove a wedge between God and mankind that passed to each succeeding generation.  Throughout history, humanity has stood in need of a way to cover sin and to remain in a relationship with God.  I have already written about the temporary provision given in the animal sacrifices of people like Abel and Job.  With the choice of Abram, the line of the Deliverer was chosen.  Then, we saw how the Mosaic Law gave a more detailed system of sacrifice and worship, which ultimately pointed to the eternal solution in Jesus Christ.  The issue of sin and the need for forgiveness is evident throughout the Old Testament Scriptures, including the Poetical books and the Prophets.

   The first thirteen verses of Psalm 103 speak of a merciful God who is quick to forgive. These verses say:

  “Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name…Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies…The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.  He made known His ways unto Moses, His acts unto the children of Israel.  The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
