A Pastor's Call to Prayer

   What now shall we do?  When life appears out of control, it is time to turn upward.

   God spoke of a time His people might face a “pestilence” (2 Chronicles 7:13b).  He offered a prescription for His people... “…if My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.” (vs.14).

   God made a promise to be attentive to the prayer of His people (vs.15a).  Herein lies our calling — to earnestly pray to our God in regard to the current “pestilence.”

   Yes, when life appears overwhelming and we feel powerless, we have a “power tool” of God’s design called prayer.  Our heart connected to God’s heart…our God who promises to listen and respond as He knows best.

   God is wireless.  Without limitation we can reach out and have a conversation with God. Our Creator, Redeemer, and Counselor desires to hear us.

   There is a “turning” that God also voiced in the above verse. God has an expectation that we “turn from [our] wicked ways.”  This is a deeply humbling expression as we face our righteous God with the exact nature of our sins that have separated us from Him. God free ...
