Free From the Cords of Death

   The cords of death for me was the secret sin of pornography. The secret ate away the capability to sustain personal relationships and eventually robbed me of everything I had worked for. I believe I tried everything known to man to rid myself of my secret sin except bring it into the light by confessing the sin to other people. I did this first in a sexual addiction recovery group and eventually confessed my sin to my pastor and my church elders. The sin lost its power over me, but I had a lot of dysfunctional learning, behavior and character traits to undo and replace with healthy. Romans 12:2 tells us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” This is a complete metamorphosis by renovating or rebuilding our mind. If the way we think is contrary to Scripture then we need to change the way we think. Astoundingly, most people claiming to be Christians have not done this. I heard someone on radio refer to a Barna report that stated only 5% of believers know their Bible well enough to formulate a Biblical world view. That would mean 95% of believers have never engaged in doing the renewal of their mind that the Scripture tells believers to do. So, this article is not just for people in recovery, it is also for the 95% of believers in Jesus who live according to the flow of the world around them.
