Mad As Hell

Many, in the solitude that the Covid-19 quarantine provided, sought God in the quiet time. I certainly did. God responded to me...not necessarily in the way I was expecting though. He showed me an area of my life that I have long neglected. Anger. Usually I am a very happy person – filled with the joy of the Lord, usually smiling, and often laughing. But “usually” is not the level of sanctification that God desires for us; and so He revealed to me my need to deal with my anger that was usually, but not always, righteous anger.

It happened one day when I was very mad about something I had read. Honestly, I can’t even remember the topic; but the phrase “mad as hell” popped into my head. No sooner had I heard that phrase than I felt the Holy Spirit gently speak... “you are angry, very mad indeed...but are you mad as Heaven?”

And I began to ask myself if my anger was rooted in something that Heaven was also angry about.  For a man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. (James 1:20).

The recent current events surrounding George Floyd’s death cause me to take my reflections on my personal anger issues God is dealing with and ask the question... “Why do the nations rage?”

This Biblical question, presented to us in Psalm 2 seems particularly valid today.
