I Didn’t Leave the Church — The Church Left Me

   During the last 60 years, there has been a great disconnect between church doctrine and the biblically ingrained beliefs of the flock. At least with the seniors’ flock. The church many of us grew up in was more fire and brimstone than discotheque, more condemnation of our sinful behavior, according to Scripture, than acceptance. More education of why we should study the Commandments and behave ourselves.  How did we get from the fire and brimstone church to the “if it feels good, do it”  church? 

   There are still many great churches in this country and great preachers too, but many have left the flock. Many churches have gone from education centers to entertainment centers. Some look like a discotheque from the ‘70s: loud music, bright lights, mirror balls, everything is good, especially if you send money. Lots of it. And a great lack of Scripture, except for Scripture that tickles the flocks’ ears.

   Jesus is being taught as all accepting but said this: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
