But Who Will Speak For the Babies?

Complimentary Story
March 2025

At the time of this writing, our nation (America) is several weeks past the 2024 elections, where Donald Trump was elected President, and the Republican Party has captured both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. There has been much rejoicing in many camps over this victory, and also much sorrow for those whose candidates lost. In some sense, I am happy that the “other” side was not victorious, as I believe there is potential for improvements in a number of areas of governmental policy. Yet, without doubt, I somehow know I’ll be disappointed, because that’s the way things always go.

Perhaps the greatest area of excitement for me is the possible appointment of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to head the cabinet position of Health and Human Services. In this role, RFK Jr. may be able to get fluoride removed from public water supplies, promote healthier food through small family farms and regenerative agriculture, and hopefully eliminate any kind of vaccine mandates, while exposing the dangers they present. From what I have seen, the man speaks from the heart.

But amidst all this “victory,” during the 2024 elections we also had 10 states that had abortion referendums of one sort or another. These referendums have been occurring in more frequency in many states ever since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022 by the U.S. Supreme Court. My own state of Vermont had one referendum in November of that year which, when passed, enshrined abortion and all reproductive decisions — right through birth — into the Vermont State Constitution. Tragically, not only did measures to prevent it from passing not succeed (many of us fought hard against it), but Vermonters who voted at all, overwhelming voted for the pro-abortion measure at about 77 percent for it, while only about 23 percent voted against it. Not even close!

Yet, these rabid campaigns to promote abortion are often referred to as promoting “women’s health,” as if pregnancy (the way the human race is sustained) is a disease!  As if a pre-born baby is cancerous tissue that must be dealt with in order to promote optimal health for women. Propagandists have known for decades, if not centuries, that language is an insidious tool for manipulating and controlling peoples’ thoughts and behaviors. And how they use it effectively to distort reality and convince people that babies are not humans.

But back to the 10 states from the 2024 election abortion ballots. . . . Those 10 states were Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, and South Dakota.

Seven of those states voted for legalized abortion, thus it was the voters who chose death over life when given the opportunity to cast a vote. The state of Florida voted against their abortion initiative, yet the vote only failed because the requirement to pass the measure needed 60 per cent to pass, not a simple majority.  Yet about 57 per cent voted in favor of the initiative (for abortion), while about 43 percent voted against it. The only thing that prevented passage was the 60 percent requirement!  Thus, the majority of the Floridian voters chose death over life, even though the measure failed the required passage.

The state of Nebraska had two abortion initiatives on the ballot. One provided for babies to be protected from abortion in the second and third trimesters. This one passed, but still allowed for abortion in the first trimester where the vast majority of abortions take place. The second initiative in Nebraska provided for abortion through birth. Thankfully, this one failed. So, there is something to be grateful about, though babies are still not protected in Nebraska in the first three months, which again is when most abortions take place.

In South Dakota, the voters rejected a right to abortion by a majority of over 58 percent. Thus, out of 10 states, only one state had a majority of voters reject the killing of babies outright. To be fair, in Nebraska the abortion initiatives didn’t allow for an outright ban, but the voters were able to restrict abortion to the first trimester.

MOVING FURTHER FROM LIFE
In addition to these numerous tragedies, the Republican Party platform of 2024 has moved away from advocating for federal abortion limits. They’ve adopted a states’ rights approach to abortion, which is what President Trump has favored. Thus, watering down any conviction on Life of the Preborn, and quietly moving away from its earlier-held stance.  While the Democratic Party is rabidly pro-abortion (this was one of the main centerpieces of their 2024 platform), the Republications seem content on sidestepping the issue. In street language, that means passing the buck! Why raise a fuss when it’s no longer in one’s jurisdiction, right? After all, we have been told that abortion is a losing issue for candidates (if you are Republican). This certainly does not resemble in any sense the Republican Party that was forged out of the issue of slavery, where States’ Rights was no excuse for some human beings to own other human beings.  I wonder what the abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison would say to many of these politicians who try to hide behind States’ Rights when it comes to baby killing? I can imagine his words of antiquity applied to the present infanticide, stating: “. . . Urge me not to use moderation in a cause like the present. I am in earnest. I will not equivocate. I will not excuse. I will not retreat a single inch. AND I WILL BE HEARD!”

Add to all this the tepid compromise of the poor excuse for the Church in America. The one institution that SHOULD be standing up for the preborn across America has been largely AWOL for many years, and increasingly so in more recent times. Less preaching (but more teaching?) on sin, repentance, and judgment informs correspondingly less conviction about the precious lives of preborn babies. While some will denounce it, many others avoid it as a divisive issue. Few will be a lighthouse on this extremely serious reality. (I try to avoid referring to abortion as an “issue,” as this has a tendency to relegate it to nothing more than just another political position.) Some in the spotlight came out this past election cycle to promote “Evangelicals for Harris,” or to state “Trump Never, Harris This Time . . .” One well-known evangelical leader (where is he leading people?) equated Kamala Harris’ uncompromising abortion promotion where euphemisms of a “woman’s right to choose” and “women’s health” were again used — to Donald Trump’s sometimes obnoxious language and mannerisms. Not excusing Mr. Trump at all, but really? . . . This from a Bible-believing evangelical?

At the other end of the spectrum, many Trump supporters feel justified because in many aspects Harris (and Biden, and Obama) are so much worse. They support Trump to the degree that they will not admit that he is very pro-choice (even suggesting that we can all agree on 15-week limits at one point), though he certainly sounded pro-life when he first ran in 2016. But for formerly steadfast pro-life Christians to fall into line that “Abortion is now a States’ Rights issue” (to use their reasoning), is again another great tragedy and certainly a part of the apostasy the Bible warns against. The great falling away! The lukewarm church of Revelation 3 perhaps?

Jesus said the following about little babies, when people brought to Him infants, that He would touch them, bless them, and heal them: “Suffer the little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God.” (Luke 18:15-16). Can you imagine the Good Shepherd, who gave His life for the sheep, supporting, permitting, or in any way turning a blind eye to the slaughter of the preborn? Yet, how many pulpit shepherds refuse to take a strong stand in favor of the babies, out of fear that many of their congregants would be offended? And how many congregants sit back, relaxed and self-assured, without any real concern for this on-going holocaust of babies being killed, just so long as all is well in their own lives? Their investments are growing, their retirements are solid, their houses and cars, their hobbies and vacations — all good!  No need to be salt and light! No need to make waves! What if, in reality, God sees our Sunday morning worship services the way Isaiah describes it: “And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide Mine eyes from you: when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.” (Isaiah 1:15).

The label “Christian” has been applied to almost every variation of life and practice, as if the Christian life is an open field of optional personal selections suited to one’s own fancy. God’s standards, God’s law, God’s book (the Holy Scriptures) are no longer the criteria for how many Christians make decisions, but rather feelings and personal preferences. Thus, there are those that believe themselves to be “pro-choice Christians.”  To restate such an impossibility: “I’m a Christian that upholds the right of people to kill babies!”

That isn’t as easy to swallow, is it? I submit, it is not possible at all. Scripture states clearly, “All they that hate Me love death.” (Proverbs 8:36).  You can’t love what God hates and still be a Christian. God will certainly forgive and save a person who is guilty of having an abortion, or who was involved in performing or promoting abortions, if they repent and turn from it. But continual ongoing promotion and support of killing babies is in no way compatible with a new creation in Christ. Just like there are no Christian prostitutes or drug dealers. Former ones? Yes!  But not unrepentant supporters of this grizzly practice!

Proverbs warns us in 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20).

It is time to repent, change our hearts, cry out to a Holy God, and let our hearts be broken over decades of continuous baby-killing in this country and around the world. Pray! Act! Be a voice! Support Crisis Pregnancy Centers. Put up banners. Display bumper stickers. Put out signs. Put pressure on candidates for public office, to make your convictions known. Support true pro-baby organizations and ministries.

Talk to your pastor about the importance of the lives of the preborn. If he won’t take it seriously, leave and find some better church (if you can!). Our righteous response to the unlawful wicked killing of preborn babies is a God-honoring objective. Let us not stand before Him someday having failed to truly care and to warn others.

Who will speak for the babies? God willing, you will!

“Before I formed thee in the womb, I knew thee.” (Jeremiah 1:5).
