In my previous article, I argued that while Muslims in America can be legal citizens, Islamic teachings conflict with American values and may promote jihad. I used a cancer analogy to warn that Islam can appear harmless but be dangerous if ignored. I cited Qur’anic verses and a portion of a 1989 speech by Dr. Sharifa Al Khateeb advocating for America to become Muslim as evidenced that some Muslims prioritize spreading Islam over assimilation. I concluded by saying that knowing Islam’s true teachings is essential to judging whether Muslims can fully be “Americans” in values. For example, for any observer to the induction ceremony of a citizen we see Muslims stand side by side with every other new member raising their right hand and giving the oath. The result is that we assume that all Muslims are truly giving an honorable oath.
But when we examine Quran 2:225, we realize that we have a problem. Because no, they are not. It is the word of Allah, “Allah will not hold you responsible for your mere utterance in an oath, but he will hold you responsible for that which your hearts gain [means] and Allah is forgiving, forbearing.”
