Complimentary Story
March 2026Two damaged lives, a yellow truck, an open road, and a life we never could have imagined.
Honestly, I am struggling to write this article. We have met many people across the country and had many conversations with interesting people, but those conversations have become so commonplace that we have not recorded them in our notes. It has become obvious to us that the lifestyle we are living has become “normal” to us.
When we first started traveling, it seemed almost every day was a new adventure. What was once unusual based on our past has now become commonplace. Unusual people are drawn to us and we have many opportunities to tell how God has brought us to the place we now find ourselves in. The conversations are small opportunities to share our testimony about how God has changed our lives. We very seldom see any of these people again and can only pray that somehow we have affected a life in some positive way.
We stopped in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and did something we have not done since we started traveling. We stopped at a campground to rest. We got there just before Thanksgiving and the campground was celebrating Thanksgiving by providing a holiday meal for all of the campers. Even though we just got there, we were invited to the feast. We were tired and thought a good meal that we did not have to fix sounded great to us! We picked a table away from the main group. It was not too long before a woman came over to visit. The conversation was the usual; “what do you do,” “where are you from,” and “where are you going?”
This conversation turned out to be quite unusual. We were 1300 miles from home and when we asked about where she was going, she said Sun City, Arizona. I commented that I have an uncle that goes there for the winter and it turned out she knows him. Further into the conversation, it came out that she was from South Bend, Indiana. Hadassah said she had relatives there and, once again, she knew the family. It really is a small world! You never know how God is going to expose things that you may not want known. (Numbers 32:23b).
We stopped at a very large market in Arizona to see if there were any supplies we may be interested in. There was a young man sitting beside a refurbished school bus and he was playing a Native American flute. We always enjoyed listening to someone play if they were good at it. After he played for awhile, he started telling us about a compound that he and some friends were setting up in New Mexico. They called themselves “Nipawakan” (phonetic spelling). It sounded like they had already made a good start at building the infrastructure and they were looking for people to join them. I guess we looked like good prospects. Their intention was to use the facility as a rehab center. It was located in a very remote area and once a person was there, they had no way to get back to civilization. The longer he talked, the description of what they wanted to do was sounding more and more suspicious.
The refurbished school bus he was using was set up as a store with many Native American style items. There was a broad selection of items that we could use for the items we made. His display was very well done. There was an awning attached to the side of the bus and it was used to hang many of the larger items.
In the center of the awning, hanging on two “J” hooks was an oversized peace pipe. It was there as decoration and not as a functional pipe. Our conversation lasted several minutes and the longer he talked, the deeper he got into mysticism. We were both getting uncomfortable with the topics and apparently the spirit world did not like our input and it decided to add some emphasis of its own.
I have mentioned several of the interactions we have had with the spirit world, but this is the first time we have seen a physical demonstration of what they can do. I do not know what was said that finally triggered the response, but that oversized peace pipe literally lifted off the “J” hooks and fell right between the young man and us. It was hanging low enough that all three of us saw what happened and that put an immediate end to our conversation. We did pick up supplies while we were at the market, but it was definitely not from him.
When we left Arizona, we headed back home to see our kids and family. We had been gone for several months and we were missing family. When we got back, we decided to stay in the area and sell. We had been invited to go to New Hampshire to set up at a small museum and we needed to raise the money to make the trip.
I will tell next month about our interaction with spirits there. One in particular by the name of “Tommy.” It was a very unusual experience, to say the least.
If any of the experiences we have shared sound unbelievable, I can only tell you every one of them was very real. There truly is an unseen world that is very capable of interacting with our world.
“For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, ‘Fear not; I will help thee.’” (Isaiah 41:13 KJV).
