May 2026Why did Paul the Apostle make this statement in Ephesians 3:3-4, “How that by revelation (God) made known unto me the mystery; … (that) ye may understand… the mystery of Christ?”
There is only one reason: The plan and purpose that God had established before creation, and ever since, Satan has used deception to try to keep as many people as possible in the dark about His will and purpose, starting with Eve.
Paul continues in Ephesians 6:19-20, “And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”
Speaking boldly of the will and purpose of Christ, of which Peter also makes this very clear statement as to what it is, in II Peter 3:9, “The Lord is longsuffering… not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” Previously, Moses also made this statement in Numbers 14:18, “The Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty (that refuse to repent and turn from their wicked ways), visiting the iniquity (the wrong thinking) of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.”
The whole of Numbers chapter fourteen describes God as always faithful to His word — Both as a jealous God, and by no means clearing future generations of guilt, that they may learn from their errors. God was bearing with them mercifully, trying to get them to the promised land for forty years, which should have taken them less than two weeks: There is no question that God is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and many transgressions! Was this really a mystery, or were they just willingly ignorant?
Paul describes himself above in Ephesians 6:19-20 as an ambassador. What is an ambassador? The Greek word used here (4243) is defined as an elder of experience, acting on behalf of, as a representative for another. Paul also uses this same word in II Corinthians 5:20 to describe the purpose we are called to: “we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech (not by force, but a strong calling, to beg) you by us: we pray you in Christ’s (place), be ye reconciled to God.”
An ambassador is an official messenger acting in accordance with the purpose of the one sending him — Not misrepresenting Him in any way shape or form with the power given him.
We are to represent Christ for whom He is — Eternal God, as no other like Him, King of kings, by the power of the Holy Spirit vested in us!
Paul, the Apostle, describes God’s purpose for us, as being an ambassador in Ephesians 1:3-14, “According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame in Him in love” (26-‘agape’, perfect love). There is no way we can be holy and without blame without emulating the divine nature of God. Without the two greatest commandments which Jesus described in Matthew 22:37-40 where Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like unto it (only second in importance), Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
These are the two most neglected and misunderstood commandments, in that so many who name the name of Christ do so in vain, and are not living holy lives without blame, in the perfect love which we are called to, as a light to the world around us! Jesus also had included this statement with these two greatest commandments, “On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” None of the law was done away with except those of the temporary atonement, now replaced by the finished work of Christ, the New Covenant!
Continuing in Ephesians 1:5-10, “Having (pre-determined) us (those who are truly in Christ, born again) unto the adoption of His children by Jesus Christ to Himself (the Father), according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the beloved (Jesus Christ). In whom we have redemption through His blood, (made just by) the forgiveness of our sins, according to the riches of His grace (providing everything we need having nothing to do with whether we deserve it or not); Wherein He hath abounded toward us (His grace) in all wisdom and prudence; Having made known unto us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He hath purposed in Himself: That in the dispensation of the fullness of time (3622-stewardship, administration, nothing to do with time, but the use of time) he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in Him” (Christ). Read Revelation 21-22; His gathering together in one, forever to be with the Lord!
Ephesians 1:11-14, “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance (also pre-determined) to those of faith) according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will (to give us every reason to trust Him, and to love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind): That we should be to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ.”
Only those who first trusted in Christ, to live as we are commanded to live, because we love Him, has God chosen to fulfill His purpose in us, and predetermining our destiny.
