Common Sense and the Progressive Problem

Complimentary Story
Summer 2026

In life we all have troubling decisions to make. We know the problem but is the solution A, B, C or all of the above? Once the dust has settled and the solutions employed  (usually after considerable time and effort), we often discover that all things being equal, “the simplest conclusion (was) the correct one!”  Not what we necessarily imagined but what is supported by reality, which can best be described as a combination of Natural Law and Common Sense.  Some might define this simpler process as divine intervention while others would say  “Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem,”  which translates as “entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity,” best known as Occam’s razor.

In other words, don’t make it more difficult than it is. Don’t complicate or even make things worse with our human imagination, often times resulting in decisions that are generated by one’s feelings and not facts.  Simply accept what nature and experience has already taught you. This means that when you are facing “two or more competing theories, the simpler explanation of an entity is to be preferred.” Mankind seemingly prefers to make what should be simple, unnecessarily more difficult, often producing even more problems.  Problems that are more often than not, multiplied by subjective reasoning and the denial of reality.

For example, here in America there are well-intended citizens who actually believe that morals are relative and life has no meaning, They have convinced themselves and insist that others — in spite of historical evidence to the contrary — accept Socialism as a proven way to best run a government.  These liberal thinkers also believe that trespassing is a right (open borders) and that man is the measure of all things. Provided that  “man” in this case is part of the proper political party or demographic group, of course.

The aforementioned entitled group also believes that children are a burden, there is no discernible difference between men and women, evolution is fact and that your sex is merely a choice — purposely ignoring physical signs to the contrary. We are talking about well-intended individuals that have created their own imaginary world, a world in which others MUST comply with their reality or there will be hell to pay.  And God only knows what evil AI, as a tool, will assist in these practitioners of the religion of Secular Humanism, but that is a discussion for another day.

In summary, there is a growing group of individuals who doggedly refuse to accept reality, intent on changing America to fit their emotional needs. One might say they are an amoral and unjust group of individuals who desperately want the USA to become a communist Sodom and Gomorrah.

This is quite curious, because in actuality, the only hope that these liberal thinkers have of maintaining their own liberties is to be shown exactly where they are taking this nation and be “born again” to truth. This is where we all come in, by looking to this situation as an opportunity and not a doomsday event in America’s near future. If America goes down, it will be due in large part to the fact that those that “know to do good, don’t” — and that means you and me.

So, this is not a “Mission Impossible” and we are going to need to employ an Occam’s Razors approach in our efforts. For example:

You are not going to accomplish your mission if you first start by accusing your audience of being wrong.

Start instead by telling them something you like about them, nobody is perfect and no one is absolutely worthless.

Tell them you respect the fact that they are so passionate about their beliefs.

Let them bring up the subject matter and then be prepared to ask questions using a Socratic method in the process.

Then ask them calmly to clarify their assumptions.  This is not a Stop and Go visit.  You may not get to the meat of the matter immediately — be patient.

Local, local, local. Start with your family first, then neighbors, then community, city and beyond.

There are other “Razors” to engage but the key here is to start the process instead of becoming a champion at complaining.  This nation doesn’t need more critics, it needs more doers.   If you see a need, that, my brothers and sisters, is your calling.  Now go out and make a new friend!  Amen.
