August 2026Reading from the Book of Jeremiah this morning, written by the prophet Jeremiah, also known as the “weeping prophet.”
Jeremiah was handpicked by the Lord to deliver warnings of impending doom upon Judah for their idolatry and their turning away from God and His Holy standards. Jeremiah delivered warning after warning to the people of Judah … and warning after warning was dismissed and ignored.
The people of Judah did what was right in their own eyes!
They flaunted their idolatry in the face of God … and their spiritual leaders, priests and prophets were as equally corrupt. They had God on their lips, but not in their minds or hearts.
WOAH — if that doesn’t perfectly describe the American Church today.
I recently watched a Jack Hibb’s podcast and at the end of his podcast, he made what I consider to be an astonishing statement. He said that he believes that 90% of American churches and their pastors are “apostate.” I knew the number was high … but 90%!
The definition of an “apostate” is: “One who abandons or renounces their previously held religious beliefs and standards...such as those stated in the Bible.”
The similarities between Judah and America today are both startling and stark! So, I have a few questions for you.
WHAT IF God sent such a prophet to America today?
WHAT IF this direct messenger from God came to America as Jeremiah did Judah?
WHAT IF this prophet delivered a dire warning of doom to America’s leaders, priests and pastors — and the people of America?
WHAT IF this prophet delivered the message that if America and its priests, pastors and people didn’t turn away from their sinful ways and back to God and His Holy standards — or else?
Would America listen? Would its priests and pastors listen and begin to preach the whole truth of the gospel? Would its people listen, repent and obey — or would they brush off the warning as those in Judah did?
Better yet — what if God decided to deliver the message Himself — by simultaneously cutting into every television, cable and radio broadcast, as well as every cell phone in America, and personally delivered His ultimate warning of impending doom upon America if they did not turn away from their sinful ways … turn away from their pride, their lust, their practice of child sacrifice through abortion, their abomination of homosexual practice, their cheating, lying and deceptions … and the list goes on and on? Would America listen?
And what if God topped it off with a miracle so big that there would be no dispute it was God — a miracle such as swapping the Sears Tower in Chicago with the Eiffel Tower in France? Relocating the Sears Tower in Chicago to France and the Eiffel Tower in France to Chicago, with a blink of an eye? Would America listen, take note, repent and obey?
Would its priests and pastors?
My good friend and editor of the Wisconsin Christian News, Rob Pue … recently wrote, “As a nation, clearly America’s days are numbered...and the clock is ticking.”
I am inclined to agree with him; but “what if” he is wrong? “WHAT IF” there is still time to save America?
