Q: How do you feel about sending Christian kids to Public School?

A: Like most issues that we deal with in life, there is often not an easy answer to this question. There are many factors to be considered. There are issues around financial stewardship, quality of education, cultural influence, socialization, extra-curricular participation, post high school consequences, and more. These issues vary in importantance, based on each unique situation and child.
First, let me state unequivocally that I believe a Christian school education has many advantages. In my own family, our children experienced both a Christian school environment and a public school environment. The experience we had through our children varied significantly, based on the schools they attended even more than whether they were public or parochial. Thus, the first decision that one has to make is one based on the quality of education that you can expect for your child when comparing school choices. A good quality Christian school will reinforce Christian teachings and principles for your children, which is very important in the very secularized culture we live in today. But in order for the child to achieve their full potential, the quality of learning in all the basic disciplines must also be there.
