Advice From a Camp Counselor

In the past, I have written articles to try to help families make the most of their camping experiences. My focus has been on how parents can find a camp that meets their needs, how to help ease the transition of their children to camp and how to help their children be successful while at camp.

This year, I would like to look at something a little different. As many youth - and families - are making their plans for camp this summer, I would like to take a moment to stop and consider how we, as Christians, can use the opportunities of camp ministries to grow in body, mind and spirit.

To make the most of your Summer Camp experience:

Try something new!

Most camps across the United States feature traditional activities like archery, boating, crafts, swimming, tent camping, etc. Adding to these, many camps offer adventures like climbing towers, high ropes courses, paintball, SCUBA, waterskiing and more. Some go even farther and add more exotic classes and activities. (Through our partnership with the Northern Lakes Impact Center, we also offer historical reenactments for campers that involve antiques, some literally thousands of years old!)

That being said, dont always stick to the basics. Trying something new will not only allow you to gain new experiences, but you might also learn a new skill, build confidence in your gifts and abilities and even discover something new about yourself! (We had a woman show up to our Primit ...
