Does the First Amendment Protect Sharia Law? (Part 3)

   This month we will continue to address an article titled “Sharia Law” by Dr. Mary Assel, retired director of the English Language Institute at Henry Ford College, concerning the First Amendment in relationship to sharia. Once again, I believe that Dr. Assel does not know that the word “sharia” means “law.” When she says “sharia law,” she is saying “law law.”

   In last month’s article, we covered the guidelines for marriage. In this month’s article, we will look at the other areas Dr. Assel listed below. Can Muslims enjoy the First Amendment in America as they practice their rights? According to Dr. Assel, “Sharia guidelines … are intended to protect believers’ rights in matters such as marriage, education, safety, dietary restrictions, inheritance and peaceful cooperation among themselves and others.”

   Once again, I’d like to remind you that sharia (Islamic Law) comes from the Qur’an and the hadith. So what does sharia teach about education?  Well, we know that women in Islam are not allowed to leave their homes freely or work outside the home. Therefore, there is no point for them to be educated. Someone might say this is just culture and has nothing to do with sharia or Islam.  However, this is not culture, but the command of Allah in the Qur’an and Mohammed in the hadith.
