2010: “The presence of so many illegal immigrants makes a mockery of all those going through the process of immigrating legally.”
2014: “Do not send your children to the borders…If they do make it, they’ll get sent back.”
2016: “We are a nation of laws. Undocumented workers broke our laws and I believe they must be held accountable, especially those who may be dangerous.”
These can be attributed to the astutely nicknamed, “Deporter-in-chief,” President Barack Obama, who, over the course of his eight-year administration, authorized over 1.24 million forced deportations and over 1.5 million border removals. His administration instituted a pilot immigration regulating program called the Criminal Alien Removal Initiative, which permitted ICE officials to stake out Latino neighborhoods, stores, and even churches in unmarked vehicles and target people for questioning without warrant or cause for deportation, criminal or not. Some of the current detention facilities at which many illegals are housed, including children, with holding units that the Democrats now refer to as “cages,” were constructed under the Obama administration.
