Who Doesn't Love Technology?

   Astonishingly, ninety-five percent of Americans own a cellular device, of which seventy-five percent are smartphones.  It is difficult to dispute that this pioneering technology has made the day-to-day human existence amazingly convenient with features like instant access to basic information, immediate contact in times of need, and even quick methods for alleviating boredom.  

   But, have we asked ourselves what we might be truly sacrificing?  Despite, the basic, primary function of the cell phone as a communicative device, there is a sobering irony in its underlying purpose: human connection is diminishing as a result of our obsession.  Friends struggle to sit down at the table to engage one another without multiple participants interacting with their phone steadily.  

   After a long day, a husband and wife find solace in scrolling through the internet instead of discussing their daily trials.  A man quietly follows his family through the grocery store using the cart to support his phone as he plays a game that requires both hands and his full attention while his wife and daughter load the food.  These miraculous devices have created a life for us where the world is, literally, in the palm of our hands.  Anything and everything we could possibly need (or want) is at our fingertips.
