Raising up Leadership in Southern Africa

Complimentary Story
Recently, Reverend Henry Mukonda, Wise Intentional Leadership Development’s (WILD) African Coordinator and Southern Africa Regional Director shared his views on how WILD is developing.

WILD is a Christ-centered, interdenominational, international organization which exists to effectively implement Biblical leadership principles to leaders of all ages in an intentional, strategic manner.  WILD builds Christ-centered relationships with people throughout the world who pray and work together.

WILD also equips Christians with tools, skills and written, instructional resources for discipleship and mentoring.  Leaders contextualize the training material to their cultures and are provided opportunities to teach their own people.  WILD empowers Christian leaders to develop leaders because we believe leadership multiplication is essential for the infrastructure and growth of churches, communities and governments.

The Summit was amazing this past summer, people were encouraged and equipped to continue with WILD.  Here are some of his thoughts.

“It was encouraging that a team from India was present at the Summit where there were sixteen countries represented.  I never considered India to have many Christians but they have over 40 million believers, which is a greater number than the population of Zambia.  National teams have developed in their activities to include training for children and women in addition to the church leaders and youth. One country also has Chaplaincy training with WILD materials.

“Church leaders remain interested in the WILD materials and welcome the training of the youth and women.  WILD national team members continue with zeal. They create time in their own schedules to speak and teach the Word of God through the WILD materials. This is particularly wonderful in countries where the economic conditions are very bad.

“As for the sixteen WILD National teams WILD has been able to establish, the Summit allowed for periodic training to the national team members.  This is where the four regional directors should continue this work with the regional teams as WILD has regional directors in Uganda (Rev. Edward Baleke), Liberia (David Mulbah) and Nepal (Rev. Ram Prasad Shrestha) and Zambia (myself).

“Some national directors are not being visited by Regional Directors on a regular basis as the regional directors are not full time, so their time is somewhat limited.  Some national directors have had tensions with national team members, particularly over money issues.  So this is an area that the regional directors need to help develop the teams.

"Appointment of new national directors when a new national team is established is very strategic. The national director’s “score card” is a way to qualify the process of selecting a person to be the national director as it gives guidelines on the character, responsibilities and how to develop as a national director.  Using the National Director Handbook and the Score Card gives direction for the national director to operate with the national team.

“One visit to a country is definitely not enough to be able to select a national team let alone the national director.  I have had good first visits with teams that understood WILD, but have also had visits with teams that did not share the vision of WILD.  This overview of the Summit and how WILD pursues developing national directors and teams gives the reader an understanding of the process and difficulties involved.  Thank you for reading my report.”

If interested in getting involved with WILD financially and/or prayerfully, go to the WILD website, www.WildLeadership.org for contact information or email International Director Mike Prom (WildMinistries@gmail.com).  WILD desires to connect with churches and mission boards to share the ministry and how WILD is strategically involved with the African and Asian Church.
