Christ had a major story to share. It largely centered on His death and resurrection. Who would He enlist to share that world-changing story?
Luke gives us that answer, as he opens up his book on Christ’s early church. He shares what Jesus told His trained disciples: “You will be My witnesses…” (1:8b). The power of the Holy Spirit (vs.8a) would give them the words to share.
Empowered…energized…equipped — for such a time as this. The timing had been pre-selected for the “good news” of Christ the Savior to be shared “to the ends of the earth” (vs.8b) .
A new “Church” would be begun that would be unstoppable (Matthew 16:18)! The disciples, who were just “unschooled, ordinary men…who had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13) would boldly carry out their “witness” work through the Spirit.
The details all came together on that first Pentecost following Jesus’ ascension. The Holy Spirit made His presence known (Acts 2:2-4). The time had come!
