Perfect Law, Perfect Grace

   The squad lights flashing in your rear view mirror...that sinking feeling in your stomach...the quick glance at your speedometer to see how bad this might be...Anyone else ever been pulled over by the police?

   It’s never a good feeling to see those lights in your rear view mirror.  There is usually no reason to be optimistic, since police officers are not in the job of pulling people over to give them rewards for their good driving.

   No, the law exists to set boundaries for our behavior, and consequences for our disobedience.

   All law has a similar function, even the Law of God in Scripture.

   Genesis 2:9, “Out of the ground the LORD God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

   Genesis 2:16-17,  “The LORD God commanded the man, saying, ‘From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.’”

   Two trees – one you can eat freely from...the tree of life (sounds like grace to me!) The other tree, the tree of knowledge of good and evil, will kill you (sounds like the law to me!). &nbs ...
