Don't Be Imprisoned by Debt

   In past issues Mr. Harlan Accola, one of the writers in this newspaper, has shed a bad light on Dave Ramsey’s “Debt free Living” teachings.  I have lived debt free for 45 years and being older than Mr. Ramsey, didn’t learn it from him, but from my parents’ example.  I have NEVER regretted it.  Due to living without debt, I have no worries, but a great deal of peace which affords a deeper relationship with my Savior, and allows me to give out of my abundance.

   I fail to find why any debt-free person would want to go into debt for any reason.  In questioning “debt livers” (ones that are NOT motivated by greed), I have yet to find one that enjoys it.  Rather they feel imprisoned by debt.  You take a survey!

   In 2008, I saw many lose all: homes and businesses.  Their equity looked good or “positive” on a “balance sheet.”  Very few had cash to buy that equity.  It sold at foreclosures for as little as 20 cents on the dollar, purchased by cash buyers (i.e. “debt free livers”) or banks.  The current situation with the economic crash due to the COVID 19 shutdown  brings similar worries.
