What Does the Bible Say About Lying?

   Today there is so much lying and deception in our world, it is hard to find the truth about anything. From the coronavirus to politics, we have heard a gamut of information.  But how do we separate the truth from the lies?  Let’s start with Isaiah 5:20 (KJV), “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”  

   Doesn’t that verse just about describe our world and culture today?  In our world today, lying is all too common.  Sadly it even now seems to be “normal” and “expected.”  Psalm 58:3 (KJV) says, “The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.”  Lying, by definition, is “a falsehood that is designed to deceive.”  

   So how can we know the lies from the truth? Hebrews 5:14 (NIV) says, “But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” As we grow in our walk and knowledge of the Lord we will see things from a Godly perspective. A survey done not long ago resulted in this statistic: 91% of us have confessed to regularly lying and up to  45% see no wrong with lying.
