Putting Families On Their Feet

   “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” - I Timothy 5:8.

   You had often heard how a well-paying job at a large company “Put many families on their feet around here.”  It is an expression of people being lifted out of poverty.  Mining and drilling help put families on their feet.  Manufacturing even more so.  Manufacturing allows you to multiply your God-given resources by your God-given creativity. 

   The funny thing is, you can make more money doing other things, but those things are never said to put families on their feet, because some businesses destroy families.  No one says that casinos help put families on their feet, the same thing is true of strip clubs, liquor stores, drug dealers and pornographers. 

   I have even seen nursing, while paying well, hurt families because the man of the house got lazy and learned to live off of his wife.  (I mean able bodied men, and I know of more than a few, they brag about it.) You can’t help families when you degrade the head of the household, namely the man.

   Then there is welfare, that form of socialism which was supposed to alleviate poverty.  In 1964, then-President Lyndon Johnson declared “war on poverty,” ...
