Changing Times

   We begin with Pilate’s question. It was the one he addressed to Jesus during His trial: “What is truth?” (John 18:38a).

   This question is far more common in our culture today than decades before. There is a questioning of truth. The conservative advocates presume there is truth and want clarification of its integrity.

   The liberal agenda is progressive questioning  a single truth. There is an acceptance of “individual” truth where each person decides its parameters. Some assertive proponents take a stand — “My truth…my way…get out of my way!”

   God is replaced with self. His truth is presumed to be out-of-date…irrelevant. 

   We find another trend in our post-Christian culture. Commitment is lacking. There are connections made to the Church, but they are tied to comfort and convenience, rather than solid, lasting dedication. 

   Here we also find a shallow connection to Christ. Or, He is “one among equals” when it comes to God. 

   This liberal belief creates a spiritual jeopardy issue—when Christ is not accepted as Savior. Jesus was bold and truthful when He declared, “I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6).
