Climate Change and the Judgment of God

Complimentary Story
“…the rebellious dwell in a dry land” (Psalms 68:6b).

Dry lands are prone to become kindling wood for massive fires. God’s Word traces the source of this dryness to the rebellious inhabitants of the land. This Biblical concept will lay the foundation to construct the rest of this article.

One cannot escape the reports raging each day as fires scorch the Western part of our beleaguered nation.  Headlines read, “Wildfires scorch western United States: ‘It is apocalyptic.’” Nancy Pelosi weighing in on this tragedy announced, “Mother Earth is angry,” the San Francisco Democrat said during an appearance recently on MSNBC. “She’s telling us — whether she’s telling us with hurricanes on the Gulf Coast, fires in the West, whatever it is … that the climate crisis is real and has an impact.”

Though Pelosi claims to be a Catholic, her voting record, political ideology, and worldview does not reflect her professed religion.  “Mother Earth” is angry? Climate crisis is real and has impact? Is Pelosi’s’ notion of Mother Earth Biblical?

   According to gotquestions.org:

“The earliest written and most reliably dated references to Mother Nature are found in Mycenaean Greek transcripts dated in 12 or 13 BC. The term Mother Earth is transliterated as ‘ma-ga’ or ‘Mother Gaia.’ This notion had its roots in the pre-Socratic philosophers who had ‘invented’ Nature, and it was further championed by the Greek philosopher Aristotle. Other cultures have embraced the notion that “nature” had its own spirit and relevancy unique from God the Father. The American Indian is one such culture that believes that there is something called an ‘Earth Mother’ that provides the water of life that gives them the abundant provision of food.”  In reality, no one but God provides our basic needs of food, shelter, water, and life.

The term “Mother Nature” is sometimes used in a general way to refer to the environment as a whole. The term is sometimes used in association with political and cultural ideologies such as global warming, environmentalism, and climate change. For some, news reports of rising temperatures, rising sea levels, savage wildfires, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, the emergence of new and even ancient diseases, and the like demonstrate that “Mother Nature” is a kind of capricious goddess who wreaks havoc throughout the earth.

It is God who controls the forces of nature: “But God made the earth by His power; He founded the world by His wisdom and stretched out the heavens by His understanding. When He thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from His storehouses” (Jeremiah 10:12–13).  Jesus demonstrated His divine power over nature by calming the raging sea (Matthew 8:26). It is also true that there are natural laws at work in our environment; these are systems God instituted (Genesis 8:22). God created our world; human sin damaged it (Romans 8:19–22). Yet God still holds our world together (Colossians 1:16–17). There is no capricious goddess at play.

Another bizarre idea is that Mother Nature is somehow the wife/consort of God and she rules in heaven alongside Him. This idea of a “mother and father god” is seen in some Roman Catholic traditions that declare Mary to be the “queen of heaven.”  The Bible, however, declares that God, in the triune Godhead, rules heaven and earth alone and unaided (Daniel 4:25). Nature is His creation and He alone sustains and protects it and, in doing so, He testifies to His goodness and kindness toward it. “He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.” (Acts 14:17).

Clearly, Pelosi and her ilk that look to appease angry Mother Earth are held captive to a pagan view. Appallingly, they promote it with every disaster that strikes our blood-stained and perverted land. What does the pernicious goddess they worship desire from us hapless humans, besides the blood of massacred babies by abortion, the perversion of sodomy, gender confusion, and the breakdown of the God ordained institution of marriage?

Politically, it is the establishment of Marxism. We must remember the mantra that fuels much of the Democratic party. They refuse to let a crisis go to waste when it comes to establishing Marxism in the land of the free and the home of the brave. In fact, Pelosi reiterated this refrain recently concerning the Covid 19 hoax, “Covid pandemic is ‘an opportunity. Every crisis is.’”

There is another other major problem our nation deals with as it grapples with angry skies, natural disasters, and the increase of plagues. It reveals the main root of our woes. America no longer believes that we are “One Nation under God.” “In God We Trust,” inscribed on our currency is in name only. Some may still draw nigh to God with our lips, but most hearts are far from Him (Matthew 15:8).

America officially abandoned the notion that God is the Supreme Sovereign that individuals and nations will give an account to on that Great Day.  SCOTUS rendered the eviction notice through several iniquitous decrees. We have gone from a God-fearing nation to a godless nation. The bitter fruit of that spiritual treachery is evident to those who have eyes that see (Matthew 13:15).

As Americans go further into apostasy and idolatry, we are left with two failed options that have led to the ruination of countries. The state, or the individual becomes the supreme sovereigns. Historically, government as god, statism, has led to tyranny and the massacre of citizens the statists claimed to serve. The other option, the individual, as the absolute sovereign has led to chaos, confusion, and anarchy.

Only One Nation under God provides the much-needed tension between authority and liberty. Our Founding Fathers sought to establish a just and orderly society on one hand with maximum individual freedom on the other hand.

Robert Winthrop understood this historical legacy. Winthrop was an American philanthropist and statesmen in the 1800s. He served as a congressman of Massachusetts and as a one-time speaker of the United States House of Representatives. In a speech to the Massachusetts Bible Society, Winthrop said:

“All societies of men must be governed in some way or other. Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled either by a power within them, or by a power without them; either by the Word of God, or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible or by the bayonet. It may do for other countries and other governments to talk about the State supporting religion. Here, under our own free institutions, it is Religion which must support the State.”

Due to America’s rebellion against God and our own founding as a people, we have been reduced to absurdity.  Great delusions have established deceitful deceptions amongst the masses.  The inmates are running the asylum.  Instead of humbling ourselves and returning to the God of our Fathers, we look to more government programs, more education, more bail outs, junk science, and political ideologies that have betrayed us and is leading to our demise.

Jeremiah, the prophet, pinpoints this disturbing reality, “For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns — broken cisterns that can hold no water.” (Jeremiah 2:13).

America has followed in Israel’s footsteps by hardening our hearts, stiffening our necks, and going a whoring after other gods. We abandoned the Lord who blessed us, and severe consequences have come upon us as a result. Do we consider our ways and repent?  No, thus our cures to what ails us has become worse than our disease.  We double down on stupidity, rebellion, idolatry, and spiritual harlotry.

We blindly ignore the warning from Psalms 9:17, “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.”  Is it a mere coincidence that hell is associated with the element of fire? I think not. It is directly connected. The rebellious shall dwell in a dry land.

God warned Israel as they were coming into the Promised Land, “Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you. For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants.” (Leviticus 18:24, 25).

What were the pagan nations doing that caused “nature” to rebel against them and vomit them out? They were practicing all kinds of sexual immorality that led to child sacrifice and the shedding of innocent blood. God warned Israel of this wretched condition and cautioned them as well. If they ended up doing what these pagans nations did, they would suffer a similar fate (Leviticus 18:28). Has not America shed innocent blood by sacrificing our sons and daughters on the altar of convenience? Have we not paraded our sin like Sodom? Have we not gloried in our shame? Is it therefore shocking that we see the warnings of the past come to pass in our day?

America has become ignorant or willfully ignorant to certain Biblical realities. There is a true and living God and apart from Him, there is no other (Deuteronomy 4:35, 39). The Lord has the power to change the landscape of the earth. It is not based upon global warming, an ice age, climate crisis or human consumption of modern energy. It is based upon the immoral consumption of the inhabitants of the land.

The God of the Bible turns dead men into living men (Ephesians 2:1). He turns watered gardens into desolations (Psalms 107:4). He turns our mourning into dancing (Psalms 30:11). He calls us at times to turn our laughter to mourning and our joy to grief (James 4:9). He turns seas into highways (Exodus 14:29). He turns dry bones into living armies (Ezekiel 37:1-14). He turns our glory into shame (Hosea 4:7). He turns our ashes into beauty (Isaiah 61:3).

He sets up kingdoms and knocks them down as He rules and reigns in the affairs of man (Daniel 4:17).  He possesses and dispossess nations based upon His holy commandments that are either broken or upheld amongst men and nations (Deuteronomy 28).

As stated prior, when our Lord walked the earth, He created, He demonstrated His divine power by calming the raging seas.  As the seas raged yesterday and as Americans are being dispossessed today by natural disasters, both the Apostles of old and our citizens are fearful and rightly so.

The only difference between “nature” continuing to vomit us out or the seas to calm is based upon our response to God in this desperate hour. Will America continue to try and appease “Mother Earth” by establishing Marxism in our defiled land or will we, like the Apostles cry out, “Lord, save us! We are perishing” (Matthew 8:25)!

Choose wisely America, your future and hope hangs in the balance!
