Christ the Light -- Be Filled!

   Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to stop our busy schedules and be reminded of all we have to be thankful for.  Spiritually speaking, there is always a reason to give thanks in everything (I Thessalonians 5:18), even in a year of COVID, riots, and political tension.  That reason is Jesus Christ. The One who gave Himself for our sins on the cross and rose again so that we can enjoy all spiritual blessings in Him (Ephesians 1:3). Besides those spiritual blessings, there are other reasons we look forward to Thanksgiving — mainly, food, football, and family. 

   Yet, there is one thing that I dislike about the holiday.  I love sitting down around the table with my family, with our home decorated in fall décor – napkins with colorful leaves, orange plates, mini pumpkins as centerpieces – and quickly planning what I am going to pile on my plate from the spread of food overwhelming the dining room table — steaming mashed potatoes with gravy, gooey brown-sugared sweet potatoes, green bean casserole topped with dried onions, fluffy corn casserole, tart and slightly sweet cranberry sauce, warm rolls, moist stuffing, and in the center of it all, the turkey. I can’t seem to fill my plate fast enough.  Then, after it is gone, I fill my plate a second time.  As if that weren’t enough, I take a small slice of each of the pie offerings – pecan, cherry, apple, pumpkin.  So ...
