What is the Apostasy of the Church?

   There are two types of Apostasy.  Those who knowingly turned completely away from Jesus Christ and no longer even pretend to be Christians and those who still claim to be Christians but have departed from genuine faith. Let’s see what the Bible has to say.

   Apostasy is the abandonment of the truth and forsaking faith in Jesus Christ. An apostate person is someone who once believed, had great faith and then rejected God’s  truth.  2 Peter 21-22 warns us, “For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, then, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them...But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.”

   Apostasy is a rebellion against God’s truth. Today we see so many churches as described in 2 Timothy 3:5, “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”  Many churches and Christians today are going through the motions of going to church and following traditions but they have forsaken the life-changing power of the Gospel and now have little “bless me clubs.”  But more and more we see people no longer attending churches on a regular basis and they believe a lie; 2 Timothy 4:3 tells us, For the time will come when they will not e ...
