Confidence in God's Work

   Philippians 1:6 – “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” 

   Paul expressed that he is fully convinced (“confident”; an assured certainty) that the work in the Philippian believers will be completed. How could he be so confident? Because the One at work in them was God. We can always trust God to do what He says He will do. In our case, God has already declared those who trust in Jesus Christ justified and at peace with Him (Romans 5:1). He already signifies that we are “children of God” (Romans 8:16). We have the indwelling Holy Spirit as our guarantee with Whom we are sealed until we get to Heaven (Ephesians 1:14; 4:30). He has also promised us, if we have trusted in the redemptive work of Christ, we will have new eternal bodies (II Corinthians 5:1) and will live with our Savior forever (Philippians 3:20-21). 

   Paul is confident that God is fully capable of doing this work in us. This verse is not discussing whether or not we will escape from Hell; that has already been decided for the one who has trusted in the redemption work of Christ to save him.
