Don't Become a Statistic

This month we will be taking a look at an alarming trend within Christianity and more importantly, what can be done about it. According to various Barna Group polls, 50-75% of Christian students will end up walking away from their faith before they leave college!

That should be very disturbing to everyone reading this article. Half to three quarters of our own children are walking away from their faith. How in the world does this happen? Is the college environment really that bad and dangerous for Christians? Not necessarily. We really wont be focusing so much on what college is like in this article and they certainly have their share of traps and snares, but there are also many positive things about college as well.

The real problem isnt so much college, but the state these students are in upon entering college. It has a lot to do with the fact that Christian youth often have a set of beliefs without any real convictions. They grow up in an environment where they are told, Were Christians. We believe that there is a God, He created everything, the Bible is the Word of God, and Jesus is the Son of God. They usually dont have too much problem with this when they are still fairly young, but as they grow and start to think more and more for themselves, they start to question these core beliefs and are often given many reasons (from the educational system, news media and friends) why these core beliefs cannot possibly be true.
