'And Why Are You Here?' -- The story of how an 8-year-old girl led her dying, skeptical Grandmother to Christ

   I had known Deb for 27 years and she had never told me what she believed as to her relationship with God.  She would say, “I believe what I believe” and leave it at that.  She would even sometimes make fun of me for going to church.

   She had mental issues and eventually left the family behind to go back to Alaska, a placed she had lived as a child and obsessed about returning to for years. Her kids were all grown and we had 13 grandchildren, but she said it was time to live her own life.  After she left, I later found out that she had emptied all our bank accounts.

   She returned so we could be divorced and left again on bad terms with everyone -- especially her four daughters.  Two months after the divorce, she was diagnosed with terminal stage four colon cancer.

   The girls thought she was lying.  I was not as skeptical as the girls, because I could not imagine anyone lying about something like that, so the answer to her next question seemed a “no brainer to me.”  Should we allow her to come back to be with the family until she died? I said, “Of course you can, under one condition...”  I didn’t have to say anything, she knew what I was thinking.
