How is Your House Built?

   Right now, it is the middle of winter for me, meaning freezing temperatures and a nice covering of white, crusty snow.  Being on a warm, sun-filled sandy beach is only a distant dream.  Lying on a beach near my house would only turn me into a frozen dead body.  So when Jesus talked about sand in a parable one day during His teaching time, He had to have thoughts of the sun warming the sand between His toes. 

   When Jesus used sand as an illustration (Matthew 7:24-27), the listening crowd clearly understood what sand was.  In fact, some of the people listening to Jesus could have been sitting on sand at that very moment.  They understood that when you walk on sand, it can shift under your feet because your weight disperses or spreads out the sand.  They knew too that when rain hits sand, the sand absorbs the water but also can be moved by the force of the water. 

   Building a house, or basically any other structure, needs a solid base or foundation to be set upon or sooner or later, you will have problems.  Having solid ground or rock to place your house upon is extremely important.  When wind, rain or snow blows against your house, that base will not allow the house to shift or move.  It acts like an anchor, securely holding your house in place.    Now if the house is poorly constructed, that is different matter.
