God's Will for Your Life

  A young African friend and I were recently talking about life and how your faith affects the way you live.  She made a statement that I have heard everywhere I have traveled, “I wish I knew God’s will for my life.”  No matter where you are in the world, young people especially want to know God’s will for them. 

   It would be so easy if God or Jesus had given us a simple formula where we plug in a few variables into the equation, add them together and “Kaboom,” we have our answer.  We do not have such a formula and there is not a verse in the Bible that says, “…(your name), this is what you are to do for the rest of your life and this is who you will marry!”

   A Chinese preacher, Watchman Nee, a long time ago said, “Knowledge of the will of God is not so much a matter of finding the right method as being the right man (or woman).”  In other words pursue getting to know God on a personal basis and what you should do in life or who to marry will fall into place.  “This is what the LORD says: ‘Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches.  But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I ...
